KITCHENER KNITTERS' FAIR

Septemer 8th is KNITTERS' FAIR in Kitchener.
We'll be there this year in a new location BOOTH 33, 34, 35 in MARSHALL HALL
Lots of new fibre and yarn colourways have been added to our inventory, hope to see you all there.

TWIST FIBRE FESTIVAL

We're back from the TWIST FESTIVAL and what a great show it was.  First time in Quebec and Amelie and her crew of volunteers and supporters did a fantastic job of organizing.
We definitely will be back next year.
We took the "WALL OF YARN" 16 feet of new colourways just for this show.
Steven had a great time too making sure everyone filled their bags of merino mill ends
The workshop with Lexi Beoger aka Plucky Fluff was a real experience, I'm not an art yarn spinner of any skill but I had fun making art batts, something I will be adding to our inventory for sure.
The other workshops were a great success, sorry no photos of them but if any one has some they would like to forward to me I will post them.

The CASHMERE TO SHAWL was a super friendly event, not scheduled as a competition but I thought they deserved something for the effort and donated yarn to the winners voted by the public.

We met so many wonderful people that are now added to our list of friends and hope we get more chances to see them all.

If you would like to see more on the TWIST FIBRE FESTIVAL 2011 go to http://www.festivaltwist.org Amelie promised to post photos on the flickr page.

Way to long and not posting

It has been way to long since I last posted on here, guess that says a lot about how busy I have been.

Just finished the Knitter's Frolic last weekend, what a great show!!!!!! Loads more shoppers this year.
We had a great time seeing all our old friends and making new ones.
Hope every one had a good time and got to purchase lots of stash, there were so many wonderful booths and some of the yarns were spectacular.

I'll be dyeing up new batches of colour in the coming weeks.  We have some great new yarns in the shop, and hope to be adding some new blends come fall for the Knitter's Fair in Kitchener.

We will be at the Handspinning Seminar on June 15 and will be brining a load of merino mill ends along.  Hope to see you there.

Hope to see you over the summer.

Countdown to Scotland

Well it certainly has been a while since I have had a chance to post anything here. Lots has been happening this past few months. I'll update you on other things later but right now we are in "countdown mode for Scotland".

I'm off on a yarn tour of Scotland and England with 25 other fibery folks on August 30th. We'll only be gone for 12 days but they are all filled dawn to dark with some really wonderful things.

We will be having 3 different workshops - carding, spinning, dyeing at Heriot Watt Textile University, knitting at Rowan Yarn and something at Farfield Mill. Also the British Wool Weekend Show, a Knitter Knatter with some local knitters, a "trunk show" at our hotel with Woolrush & Scottish Wool shops.

We will also be touring several towns and cities Peebles, Edinburgh, Abbotsford home of Sir Walter Scott, Harrogate, York, Halifax and then on to London for a musical and a visit to the I KNIT shop before we come home.

I'll be sure to post a recap of the tour and photos when I get back, but now it is only "three more sleeps" as the grandkids say before I'm off.

Majacraft Spinners

It has been a while since I have posted and I apologize. I've been so busy in the shop and dyeing and there are not enough hours in the day to post fun stuff.
I love this photo of a group of new spinners from Newfoundland that I have had the pleasure of meeting and sending stuff to over the last few months.
What could be better than a room full of Majacraft Suzie Pros, beautiful yarn in the making and some really wonderful people.

Knit in Public June 14th

To help celebrate "KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY" I've decided to host a "KNIT IN PUBLIC" event on June 14th here at The Black Lamb.
I thought we would start at 11:00 and knit till whenever. I've opened it up to any spinners that would also like to attend.
Please bring, a chair, umbrella or canopy tent, lunch, water and whatever else you think you might need for the day. We will set up in the parking lot at the back of the building.
If you would like to come and are not sure of how to get here email fibre"at"theblacklamb.ca

In case of rain the event will be cancelled as we do not have enough indoor facilities to accommodate a large number of people.

Drop me a line if you can come.

Newest Yarn

Here is the NEWEST YARN in our every expanding line up of custom spun and hand dyed yarns. This is a 2 ply finger weight 100% Merino yarn fresh off the drying rack. It has 1750 yards per pound and is soooooo soft. I am knitting up the sample for the gauge on this one today but I'm guessing 26 stitches/4 inches on a 3mm.

SNOW DAY - PLAY DAY

Here we are enjoying another "gift" from Mother Nature. You can't see how hard it is snowing but it is really coming down, this is the start of another expected 30 cm (12 inches). So what to do .................play of course.

NEW FIBRE IN STOCK

This will confirm that I am a "fibre-holic". We made our weekly trip to pick up mill ends, I truly had no intension of getting anything else that day but as you can see I had a weak moment.
This is a 15 pound bump of 60% SEACELL 40% SILK TOP and I bought TWO of them, as soon as I can I will get it on the NEW website with pricing (you are welcome to email me if you can't wait.)
The "binging" did not stop there, I also got some roving - 12 pounds of OLIVE TWEED, 40 pounds of YELLOW (feltable), 12 pounds of PLUM, 17 pounds of RED, 20 pounds of ORCHID and 40 pounds ROYAL BLUE all in superwash merino, and just to top it off I ordered 10 pounds each of 11 more colours.
A great start to the NEW YEAR, watch for more to come.

Skein Winder

That is indeed a fancy electric skein winder. It will do up to 10 skeins at a time and I can set it to do a predetermined amount of yardage. It really frees up a lot of time when I am doing skeins for dyeing.
Glad to hear you like the colours.
